Rotary hears from its District Governor and from One Acadiana

The Rotary Club of Ville Platte closed out the month of October by hearing from its District Governor Harold Domingue of Lafayette.
Domingue talked about the importance of growing membership in the organization that has 1.2 million members in 35,000 clubs. While membership is growing in Asia, according to Domingue, membership is falling off in America and in Europe.
Domingue then talked about Rotary’s efforts through its foundation in eradicating polio. The disease now only exists in three countries worldwide - Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The Ville Platte club presented Domingue with a basket of local goods to be auctioned off at the next club he visits. At the same time, Domingue brought a basket from the DeRidder Rotary Club that was auctioned off here. The winning bidder was Rotarian Dr. Phillipe Vidrine.
A week later, on this past Tuesday, the Ville Platte club heard from Zack Hager with One Acadiana, which is an organization promoting economic development in the nine-parish Acadiana region.
Hager talked about certified sites, specifically the Industrial Park here in Evangeline Parish.
“We work frequently with Tojo Ward to market that property,” he said. “There’s a lot of land here where parishes like Lafayette don’t have a lot to develop. So there’s a lot of opportunity here because you’re so close to I-49.”
