Sacred Heart girls bow to Bunkie; Ville Platte falls to U-High
It was a disappointing night, to say the least, for three of the parish’s girl’s basketball teams Tuesday.
First off, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans fought tooth and nail throughout their contest but came up just short in a 51-44 loss to the Bunkie Lady Panthers.
With the loss, Sacred Heart falls to 2-8. The Lady Trojans are scheduled to play St. Edmund Friday night.
The Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs fell behind too far after the first quarter of play as they dropped a 67-45 loss to the University High Lady Cubs.
Ville Platte slips to 6-4 on the season with the loss. The Lady Bulldogs open district play at home against Pine Prairie Tuesday.
Finally, the Basile Lady Bearcats were outscored 26-13 in the third quarter, as they got knocked down by the Lady Indians of Elton.
Basile is now 2-6 on the year and 1-2 in district play. The Lady Bearcats host Merryville Tuesday.
Here is a rap up of those three games.
Both Sacred Heart and Bunkie came out slow on the offensive side of the floor in the first quarter of play with the Lady Trojans only trailing by two, 7-5, when the horn sounded to end the period.
The two teams dueled each other even farther in the second quarter, as Bunkie headed into the locker room with a one point lead, 20-19.
The battle continued into the third quarter, but this time Sacred Heart was able to earn the advantage and take a one point lead, 36-35, into the final period.
Bunkie stole the momentum in the fourth quarter to finish off the game with the win.
Kali Shiver had 14 points to lead Sacred Heart.
vs. Ville Platte
U-High proved to be too much for Ville Platte in the first quarter of play, as the Lady Cubs opened up a 21-10 lead as the period came to a close.
The second quarter was much better for the Lady Bulldogs, as J’Kyra Jackson sank two three-point baskets to help Ville Platte match U-High point for point in the period.
Ville Platte’s Kayden Coward pumped in six of her 11 points in the third quarter, as the Lady Bulldogs stayed within three, 15-12, during that period. However, the Lady Cubs outpaced Ville Platte 13-5 in the final quarter to seal the win.
Kayden Coward feathered the nets for 11 points to lead Ville Platte. Jackson added 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Elton vs. Basile
Basile held a two point lead, 12-10, after one quarter of play, but trailed by one, 13-12, as the teams headed into the locker room.
The third quarter spelled the difference in the game, with the Lady Indians outscoring the Lady Bearcats 26-13 to open the game up even farther. Basile tried to comeback in the final period, outdueling Elton 15-14, but could not finish the job.
Lainey Soileau had 13 points to lead Basile, while Shayla Lavergne pitched in 12 points. Hannah Manuel chipped in 11 points for the Lady Bearcats.
